A police officer escaped unscathed when a patrol automobile he was driving burst into flames in the vicinity of the entrance of Hong Kong’s Japanese Harbour Tunnel on Friday.

The officer was driving the automobile back again to law enforcement headquarters in Wan Chai from the Kowloon Bay car or truck plant of the Electrical and Mechanical Providers Department when it caught hearth soon prior to 11am.

A law enforcement supply claimed the malfunctioning automobile had been despatched to the Kowloon Bay plant for inspection and repairs just two days earlier.

No weapons or tools had been stored in the automobile.

A spokeswoman for the Hearth Services Department stated 3 fireplace engines and an ambulance were being deployed and firefighters took about 15 minutes to douse the flames.

No casualties were being described and original investigation observed absolutely nothing suspicious. The motor vehicle was terribly weakened in the incident.

A section of Lei Yue Mun Highway heading in direction of the tunnel was closed to targeted visitors owing to the incident. The lane was reopened prior to 12.30pm, said a supply in the Transport Division.
