Constantia, N.Y. — A man was thrown from a motorcycle after crashing into an unmarked state police investigator’s car on Tuesday, troopers said.

An investigator for the state police was turning left into a driveway off of State Route 49 at 3:35 p.m., according to a news release from the State Police.

The motorcyclist attempted to pass the investigator and crashed into the driver’s side rear door, troopers said.

The impact caused the motorcyclist, Douglas C. Groover, 56, from Newark (Wayne County), to be thrown from the bike, troopers said.

Groover’s leg was injured and he was taken to Upstate University Hospital in an ambulance, troopers said.

The investigator, Ivan Chinikailo, was taken to a local doctor for an evaluation, troopers said.

The accident is still under investigation, troopers said.
